Special Education Services
Students with disabilities and their families are a valued part of the View Ridge Elementary school community. View Ridge has a variety of supports available to students with disabilities, including students with 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s).
The students may receive special education services within their general education classrooms, a Resource classroom, Focus classroom, or a combination of the above.
Focus Classroom
The Focus program is designed to give all students an opportunity to learn among their general education peers, as much as possible, and it also provides small group and individualized instruction in areas where the students need additional support. Students typically attend the Focus classroom for specially-designed instruction in core content areas (ex. reading, writing, math) , and join general education peers for content areas like social emotional learning, PE, music, art and social studies/science, as appropriate. The Focus classroom ratio is 1 teacher and 2 instructional assistants (IA’s) to 10 students. IA’s also help facilitate learning opportunities in the general education setting for students from the Focus Program.
Resource Classroom
The Resource room offers students specially-designed instruction and modifications to help them meet grade-level expectations and individual goals. Most specially-designed instruction is provided in the special education setting, but it is also provided in the general education classroom, according to IEP requirements. Resource services are provided with a ratio of 1 teacher to every 22 students with instruction assistant (IA) support.
Additional Support
The students also have access to occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, and a psychologist on site and their time is allocated according to the IEP.
