View Ridge Music

At View Ridge, Kindergarten thru 5th grade students enjoy a rich music program! Mr. Goetz, our music teacher, instructs students based on two philosophies. The Orff approach is a way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing and using percussion instruments. The Kodaly philosophy is that music education is most effective when started early and that everyone is capable of musical literacy. We offer instruction in three different areas:

General Music – This class meets once per week and all Kindergarten thru 5th graders attend. Curriculum includes singing, reading, writing, and notating music. They also participate in games, dancing, composition and music history.

Instrumental Music – Students can sign up to learn to play a particular instrument that would fall into one of the categories listed below and these classes meet once per week, in addition to their General Music time. They will receive music instruction from our music teacher along with other students learning similar instruments.

-4th/5th Grade Beginner Band (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion and optional electric bass).
-4th/5th Grade Beginner/Advanced Orchestra (violin, viola and cello).
